Description
As a third step in producing a spark we use a high voltage coil (amplifier) Selettra and it is digital. This is the final step to convert generated energy in stator from low voltage high current in to high voltage low current so we can create this “bang”. Dry air is a quite good insulation for electricity and in order to brake it (to create spark) you need a quite a lot of voltage. The gap that define space from positive charge electrode in spark plug and “the ground” negative pole that is our whole engine also defines the needed voltage, the length of the spark and therefore also the temperature of the spark, so selecting the right spark plug for right temperature could be a tricky business. Spark plug is the ultimate stage from electrical system on any engine because after the spark plug there is only a smoke 🙂
Hint: if there is no “ground” in the system like in situation when you disconnect the plug from the sparkplug in order to remove the sparkplug and check the piston head and leave the cable hanging there touching nothing and in the same time you spin the wheels of your kart engaged in gear (set the engine in motion) you are generating current which can not be discharged from amplifier (high voltage coil) because there is no “ground” close to it (when in operation we are talking about millimeters from electrode to ground) and only way to release this energy is thru the coil it self which can lead to damage of the coil!! In order to avoid this any time you plan to set the engine in motion (by revving wheels with hands or any other way) PLEASE connect to sparkplug back to connector plug and connect the outer side of the sparkplug to the engine (exhaust spring is a good place to putt sparkplug to the ground) and then set the engine in motion.
